Focus on European border regions

Europe is growing together most notably at its borders. A chance for these regions to step from national periphery into the European centre. Furthermore border regions may serve as testing laboratories for the future of European integration. At last they are subject of a conference taking place both in Sønderborg, Denmark and in Flensburg, Germany in June 2007.





This conference, titled "From the Periphery to the Centre - Universities as Engines of European Border Regions", encompasses the whole spectre of the so-called "knowledge triangle" Education-Research-Innovation with regard to cross-border cooperation of European higher education institutions. Within this framework, the issues "mobility" and "social and economic development of border regions" will be focussed on. The conference takes place from June 14th to June 16th both in Denmark (City of Sønderborg) and Germany (City of Flensburg).


"From the Periphery to the Centre" is organised by the European University Association (EUA), the German Rectors´ Conference, the University of Flensburg, by the Syddansk Universitet, by the University of Applied Sciences Flensburg and the Chamber of Industry and Commerce of Flensburg (IHK Flensburg)


About 200 representatives will be expected from higher education institutions situated in border regions within the EU or, respectively, on both sides of the EU's external border; actors involved in regional policy, regional planning and business in European border regions.
